CISM Advanced Group Crisis Intervention

Equipping teams to handle complex critical incidents effectively

Course Description

This course is designed to provide participants with the latest information on critical incident stress management techniques and post-trauma syndromes, the Advanced Group Crisis Intervention course builds on the knowledge gained from the Group Crisis Intervention course and related publications. By the end of this course, participants will have learned specific, proven strategies to assist those affected by trauma. The course emphasizes advanced defusing and debriefing techniques for complex situations. It is intended for EAP, human resources, and public safety personnel, mental health professionals, chaplains, EMS providers, firefighters, physicians, police officers, nurses, dispatchers, airline personnel, and disaster workers already trained in the critical incident stress debriefing format. It is also valuable for those extensively working with traumatized individuals from various backgrounds. This course requires prior training and experience.

What Participants will Learn

  • How to manage complex group oriented crisis interventions

  • The nature and importance of incident assessment

  • Strategic intervention planning

  • The concepts of enhanced group processes

  • How to perform significantly delayed interventions

  • How to perform a “multiple incident CISD”

  • The group process for suicide of a colleague

  • How to provide interactive group crisis support sessions after a disaster

Two-Day Course

Participants will receive an ICISF Certificate of Attendance that offers general Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from by University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Emergency Health Services Professional and Continuing Education (PACE).
