This course is designed to introduce the essential elements of a comprehensive, systematic, and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum. Participants will gain a deep understanding of a variety of crisis intervention services. The course will cover the fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and equip participants with the skills to conduct several group crisis interventions, including Rest Information Transition Services (RITS), defusings, and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). Additionally, the importance of appropriate follow-up services and referrals will be highlighted.

A fundamental understanding of key crisis and stress terms and concepts
An understanding of the nature of resistance, resiliency, and recovery in the field of CISM
The five elements of strategic planning as it relates to CISM activations
Informational Group Crisis Interventions to support operational teams
Understanding and practice informational and interactive group crisis intervention procedures
An understanding of how and when to provide CISM interventions as well as when it is not recommended
How to reduce the risks of crisis intervention
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD)

Participants will receive an ICISF Certificate of Attendance that offers general Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from by University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Emergency Health Services Professional and Continuing Education (PACE).
