The Easy Self-Care Plan for Less Stress

The Easy Self-Care Plan for Less Stress

Jan 28, 2022

Taking care of ourselves and managing our stress levels is more critical than ever in these challenging times. It can be hard to fit a good self-care routine into a busy schedule, but here’s an easy plan that should fit into the most hectic life.

1.) Take a news break

Constantly listening to the news will stress out even the most relaxed person these days. It’s essential to strike a balance between being well informed and needlessly stressing out. There’s nothing any of us can do to affect world affairs, and nothing will change in the short term. So step back from the news for at least a few hours and a couple of days if possible.

2.) Eat well

Stress causes cravings for sugar and fat but giving in to them causes even more stress. It’s a vicious cycle, and the best way to break it is by eating well, even during stressful times.

3.) Do some deep breathing

Taking a few deep breaths is always a great way to destress. Three to six deep breaths will relax the body and reduce overall stress.

4.) Get some sun

All it takes is five minutes of sunlight (or an equal amount of time under a sunlamp) to increase Vitamin D production and reduce cortisol levels, both of which reduce stress.

5.) Write

A few minutes of writing reduces stress levels. Both gratitude journaling and stream of consciousness writing provide an excellent outlet for stress. All it takes is a pen and a sheet of paper!

6.) Go for a walk

Every doctor agrees that exercise is a fantastic way to reduce stress, but it doesn’t take a lot of time at the gym to do it. Even a ten-minute walk is enough to lower stress levels. So go outside for the walk and combine it with getting some sun.

7.) Get off social media

Not forever, but too much social media is itself a stressor and can lead to anxiety and self-esteem issues. Taking a break for a day or two can do wonders for stress levels.

8.) Use positive affirmations

Affirmations are a good part of any self-care plan but are especially good at boosting self-esteem and reducing stress. Pick a few favorite affirmations and recite those multiple times a day. Write them down and keep them around the house or office where they are easy to see.

9.) Listen to music

Music is a great way to practice self-care and reduce stress, and it’s an easy method to use. Pick some favorite music, turn it on, and enjoy. Dance if possible to increase the benefits.

10.) Have a bedtime

Kids aren’t the only people who need a regular bedtime. Adults do too. Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for self-care and stress reduction. A regular bedtime promotes both quantity and quality of sleep.

Begin implementing your plan gradually. You don’t have to incorporate all ten ideas at once. Instead, pick one or two and begin making a new habit. Add more as you feel comfortable.
